Colin O’Driscoll died on 30th April 2026 after being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in November 2025.
Colin was a member of Brussels Labour and a former Chair of Labour International.
Colin was born and brought up in Jersey and moved to Brussels in 1994 to work for the European Commission in IT. He moved with his family to the Netherlands to work for the Commission’s representation. After returning to Brussels, and living there for 3 years, he relocated to Leuven and on retirement, to Bruges.
Colin was a committed supporter of progressive politics, an internationalist, and engaged in a wide range of issues including refugees, Palestine and US politics under Trump.
He became a member of the Labour Party as a student and joined the trade union movement when he worked for Reading Borough Council. From 1990 to 1994 he lived in Manchester and was a member of the then Withington CLP. More recently, he was heavily involved in the UK Labour Party’s International CLP, then the Labour International Left Alliance and latterly the International Labour Network.
He will be remembered as a kind friend and colleague, and as a socialist with a strong sense of humour and a love of the absurd.
His family said goodbye to him at a woodland burial just outside Bruges. Our sincere condolences to his wife Beverley and his daughters Rosa and Robin.
An on line memorial is to be held soon.
